Another example of censorship, rather despicable… This time from… TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand), the public agency that designed the campain “Amazing Thailand“, in order to lure tourists. Remember ?
Amazing, indeed.
Film pulled from festival at request of Iran
The Bangkok International Film Festival yesterday pulled a controversial animated film from its screening list after a request from the Iranian embassy in Bangkok. The animation Persepolis, directed by Paris-based Iranian Marjane Satrapi and French artist Vincent Paronnaud, tells the autobiographical story of Satrapi as a girl growing up in Teheran during the Islamic revolution in the 1970s.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which is sponsoring the trouble-plagued film festival, says it acceded to the Iranian request to maintain good bilateral relations.
”The film is interesting and has artistic value, but we decided that it’s best not to show it,” says TAT’s chief officer, Chattan Kunjara Na Ayutthaya.
Persepolis won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May and attracted much attention because of its subject matter and the witty humour Ms Satrapi uses to tell the story.
