The Electoral Commission does whatever it can to confuse people, with new regulations, regarding the campaign but also the voting procedures. But with a very noble aim : “good governance”, “transparency”, “fairness”, etc.
And they have no shame to admit that, indeed, the new rules will lead to “large number of faulty ballots” !
Because, obviously it’s… what they are looking for.
“The Election Commission (EC) admitted new election regulations could result in a large number of faulty ballots.
EC member Mrs Sodsri Sattayatham said she expects most of the bad ballots to come from voters casting ballots for constituency MPs. She said several parties’ indecision in appointing numbers for candidates running in the election race shows the election could cause confusion for voters.
“The EC will not be able to allow the names of political parties to be printed on ballots as proposed by the People Power party,” said Mrs Sonsri.
“What we can do in the future is perhaps adjust the constitution regarding voting regulations.” (Bangkok Post)
Thaksin did exactly the same in april 2006. Some rules, linked to the voting procedures, were changed at that time. So, there is nothing new under Thailand’s sun.
All those “independent” institutions, like the Electoral Commission, are working for their masters.

Or it could be… well, lets face it, Thais are legendary in their skill in cocking things up.
Never attribute to malice what is adequately explained by incompetence.
More like BS-bureaucratic red tape to me.
May be next time we will hear Mrs S complain about bladder problem due to cannot find correct form to fill for going to toilet.
