Valentine’s Roses Index : another blow to the boiler room

You have to looooooove it!

Tuesday
Young lovers are ignoring the sluggish economy and higher cost of living big time, and will be spending 2.16 billion baht for Valentine’s Day.

The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce says that is up 15 per cent over Valentine’s Day spending last year.

Wednesday
Valentine’s Day is the only day of the year where vendors get to increase the prices of their flowers, sometimes by more than ten times the usual market price.

But this year, it seems the sluggish economy has hit consumers hard, and it shows by just how little Thais are spending on their loved ones.

Vendors said sales have dropped by a whopping 40 per cent this year.

They’re having to sell a rose for between 5-8 baht apiece and a bouquet for 250 baht, compared to last year, when one rose would cost 300-400 baht and a bouquet would sell for 400-500 baht.

And another blow to the boiler room. The reporters at Bangkok Post are even unable to point the… slight discrepancy.

I mean if now even sales of roses for this stupid Valentine’s Day are going down… what’s next ? ;-)

We are freaking doomed. ;-)
