Hear, hear ! The Commerce Minister, in his white and shiny armour, has managed the impossible : to kill the vicious beast, the dragon… Inflation with a big I.
Ready ?
Twelve consumer product manufacturers agreed on Monday to cut the prices of 60 items, effective today in Bangkok and a week later in provinces.
Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan said after the meeting with the manufacturers that the items included in the discount programme are powdered milk (15 items), detergent (14), soaps (6), shampoo (5), hair conditioner (1), toothpastes (7), toothbrushes (3), powder (4), and others (5). (Nation)
You are thrilled ? Maybe not. But you can be sure that the real thai people, on the real ground, will be overwhelmed : what they will save on toothpastes and soaps… will of course offset their gasoline and food bills !
We are saved.
But wait… there is something even more interesting : ” All the items belong to 12 companies including Saha Group, Lion Corporation, Unilever Thai Trading, Colgate-Palmolive, Kao Commercial, Osotspa, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle and Dumex.”
I count 5 western multinationals companies in this list, and 1 japanese.
It’s good to be able to rely on those damned foreigners when you are a thai politician, right ?
[we don't have the details of the "price cuts"... nor the conditions... nor the duration of this "discount programme". But mai pen rai : tomorrow you'll see triumphant articles in the thai press]
