Office of Narcotics Control wants to… control on line games

This piece “published” by the PRD (Public Relations Department), the propaganda staffel of the governement, is a perfect example of thai non-sense.

As for the substance, and… the form.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the reading ! ;-)

It’s a masterpiece, a cas d’ecole.

Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Pittaya Jinawat revealed points made in a tactical meeting with computer game related businesses focused on protecting and guarding against the pervasion of narcotics and also game addiction.

The two bodies agreed that in recent times, child game addiction has become a social problem with studies finding that children enjoy congregating to spend time playing computer games in internet cafés, turning them into targets for drug peddlers and even gang recruiters.

The ONCB asked that the business group cooperate with the Internet Café Society of Thailand as well as online game producers to come up with ideas to remedy the situation.

The office suggested that internet café’s attempt to make their services more positive and creative with activities that promote a better quality of life.

Game developers have affirmed that they are ready to produce more positive games that are age appropriate but also evoke family participation, which they believe will be the best way to safeguard deviant behavior.

This is an actual society problem in the making. From what I recall, China had a hour quota and Korea an age ID. I means small kids with head barely over the table are actually better at playing a shooting game than me. This must be solve!

But the juristriction of tackling game addiction is still blurr. ICT too busy blocking porn and anti-monarchy blog.

Well it could be a society issue… However, I think everybody can agree that the government can’t apply the same policy than with… narcotics. I mean drugs !
    ;-)

Otherwise, the Office of Narcotics Control should take care of everything else : chocolate addiction, alcohol addiction, sex addiction, som tam addiction, spicy food addiction etc.

“the best way to safeguard deviant behavior.”

That’s classic. I sure hope they meant “safeguard against deviant behavior”… :)
