The comedy continues. The Finance Minister continues to fire nonsenses, like a machine gun.
Consider this :
Dr Surapong, who recently travelled to Washington to attend the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, said accelerating economic growth would come this year even as other countries in the region are expected to post slower growth due to the more difficult global environment (Bangkok Post)
It’s proven : a “difficult global environment” has an effect on other countries in Asia. But not in Thailand ! Of course. Thailand is so different, right ?
Inflation, while relatively high at 5% this year, remained better than several other countries in the region whose prices were rising at 7% to 8%, he added.
“Doctor” Surapong acknowledges that he was lying about inflation… sorry that he was over optimistic… That the rate will be indeed 5 % or more this year (like I wrote… since last october). And absolutly not 3,5 %.
[update, a spicy one : wednesday april 23... the BOT has revised the inflation forecast : between 4 and 5 % !]
And furthermore, he tries to fool people with this very stupid statement : inflation is worse in other countries, so we should be happy !
Striking, isn’t it ?
But “Doctor” Surapong should explain to us what would be the real inflation rate in Thailand if the government was not CONTROLING prices, delaying or stopping prices hikes and subsidizing products (diesel etc.) !
Of course, he won’t. Because the “doctor” would loose face.
And he should consider making inflation… illegal. That would solve the problem definitely, right ?
”The main problem facing the economy actually is the feeling that politics will remain an obstacle to growth,” said Dr Surapong, who is also the secretary-general of the ruling People Power Party.
Here, we can only… agree.
The thai political situation is indeed explosive…
However, it’s much more than a mere”feeling“…
