Somchai is best described as “a modest man with much to be modest about”.
However, it’s not clear that it was possible to do much better at a time, within a short timespan, under siege from day one, with all relevant forces refusing his orders. We should give Somchai credit for just sitting back and not doing significant harm (many politicians would have).
