I was there...

There was a lot of road blocks when you went into bigger towns. The military stopt a lot of bird transports to check if their was any threaths.

I still think that people should overreact about this flu their is far more serioua problem specielly in Thailand. Look how many people dies every year in car accidents 14000 people. out of 65 million people

1 out of 60 going to get killed in traffic accident. if you calculate with a average life of 70 year...

Hey since I wasn't here in Thailand when the bird flu hit, so I got a question, did Thaksin government try to covered it up???? I mean, back in US they all know that SE Asia got hit pretty fast when China discover it so everyone knows that there are some sort of epidemic here, and from a good logic, you can't cover up what is known.

Good reminder Balance. Indeed, the "bird flu" and Thaksin's government are not good memories. The cover up was gross, AKA stupid, vulgar, childish. And eventually, derisory.

Thumbs up to PM Abhisit. Especially when compared to 'Dr' Thaksin's outright denial of the much deadlier bird flu, which was followed by his typically blatant cover-ups and finally botched PR attempts to appear to be doing something (only when caught out).

The UK is now joining other western countries in accepting it's almost impossible to stop the spread of swine flu. This is a logical conclusion and once reached, resources can be better used in treating patients, educating the public and concentrating on higher risk groups such as those with breathing problems etc.

Unfortunately in Thailand there's a lack of understanding thus the Govt is (rightfully) concerned over panic potential and must also try to pacify the public and try to tackle the flu at the same time.

Hopefully Thailand can get past this stage by continuing to educate the public on prevention by using using proper hygiene and common sense. The Govt needs to devote more time and resources to focus on higher risk groups, not on pacifying.

Companies in Thailand could use this as an opportunity for developing contingency plans for future outbreaks or potential disruptions of any kind, ie; Cross training staff, readying a critical staff replacement list, work from home contingencies and so on.

Despite all the flu-fear and the very unfortunate but thankfully few deaths, hopefully hype gets replaced with knowledge and Thailand can devote scant time and resources where better needed as well.

I don't see what everyone is complaining about. Makes perfect sense to Bedwyr...

Let me explain.

Abhisit wants to reduce the spread of swine flu so everyone has to get out of Bangkok, go home and stay home, don't go anywhere.

     and

Abhisit wants everyone to go home and then go out to lots of touristy places.

Oh...

Silly me.

Well, more than 14,000 dies every year on Thai roads. I´m sure that Abby and his boys never heard of it. Surely less than 100 will die of the flu, all of them with other underlying serious deseases. The death on Thai roads is far more serious than the mildest flu for decades

I didn't think such a thing was possible but, truly, Abhisit is starting to make Samak look good.........

Do you think he comes up with this drivel himself - or does he have the help of some "Yes, Prime Minister" clipboard-carrier who pulls out something "new" for him to announce every week....... ?

Well, the Romans did well for quite a while with their "bread and circuses" approach - but you need to be conquering/plundering territory to pay for both.

The flu A virus has killed less people in the world compared to the people died by traffic accidents in Bangkok everyday basis. I guess that they should put more effort in other problems as usually. I guess people get more scared of getting a flue then getting hit by a car walking over the street.
