Pol Gen Patcharawat’s offer yesterday to take 10 days’ leave to go on a mission overseas and put on hold the police reshuffle has apparently come as a relief to the Abhisit government.
His proposal came amid rumours he would be sacked to allow a probe into the attempted assassination of core People’s Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul to proceed.
The government was under pressure to take action after police investigators led by deputy police chief Thanee Somboonsap complained that the investigation had run into difficulties. The PAD and its allies also accused Pol Gen Patcharawat of blocking the probe.
It was reported there was an attempt to ask Pol Gen Patcharawat to take a month’s leave to give the police investigating the case a free hand and speed up their work. (Bangkok Post)
Now the version from TNA, the official propaganda staffel of the government :
Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva asserted on Friday that National Police Chief Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan will not be removed from his post as he affirms that the latter is not an obstacle to the investigation into the attempted killing of a media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul.
The premier however said the police chief had proposed two possible solutions to ending the conflict regarding the probe into the attempted killing of the Peoples Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in April.
Gen. Patcharawat proposed delaying any police reshuffle until the new police chief takes office because he doesn’t want the reshuffle to affect the probe, the prime minister said.
“The police chief also told me that he will take leave for an overseas mission for one month starting from next week,” said Mr Abhisit. “I think this is a sufficient timeline for the investigative team to proceed and finalise the case.” (TNA)
And the final blow :
Police chief Pol Gen Phatcharawat Wongsuwan insisted on Saturday morning that he has no plan to take leave for one month as stated at Friday’s press conference by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Pol Gen Phatcharawat admitted that he had met and discussed with the premier on Friday afternoon but had never submitted a letter asking for a permission to take leave as the media reported. (Bangkok Post)
And the final-final blow
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva Saturday insisted that national police chief Pol Gen Patcharawat Wonsuwan agreed to take a leave of duty next week.
Abhisit said he and Patcharawat had no conflicts regarding the Patcharawat’s plan to be on holidays. (Nation)
Several issues there, like thai-russian dolls :
-10 days leave ? Or one month ? Or none ?
-is Abhisit lying ? Or Phatcharawat ?
-and more importantly : Abhisit’s procrastinations and the worst compromise. The Chief of police is or is not culprit of obstruction and cover-up of an ongoing investigation… He can’t be half culprit. So-so culprit. Little bit culprit.
But as usual, being powerless, useless and spineless, Abhisit can’t take a decision.
He can’t fire the Chief of Police, because the Chief of Police is just more powerful -or represents more powerful interests- than the alleged and so called Prime Minister ! Voila the burning and ugly reality.
This is why he created this new thai drama : “the one month forced holiday so the investigation can continue but of course the chief of police didn’t do anything wrong”. !
I mean… “leave for an overseas mission for one month starting from next week” (official quote from TNA)… I repeat ladies and gentlemen : “leave for an overseas mission for one month starting from next week“
Abhisit, july 31 2009 after Jesus Christ. It’s amazing. And scary.
And we are not talking here about the maid, his wife or the nephew… No the Chief Of Police. A rather important position…
Abhisit ? Change We (Still) Can !
Seven months of pain already for Abhisit… And the poor guy is quickly losing the little common sense he once had… He’s totally burned out.
Like were Surayud, Samak, Somchai before him.
And he’s likely to end just like them.
In History’s garbage dump.
