200 000 tonnes of rice stolen from state’s stockpiles !

Another huge scandal ?… “Government sources said on Monday that 200 000 tonnes of rice were missing from warehouses nationwide.”

missing” ? ! What does it mean ? Stolen !

“Damages were estimated at approximately 3.2 billion baht, about US$101,1 million” (Bangkok Post)

That’s almost 10 % of the total stockpile (2,1 millions tonnes) kept by the authorities !

Is there anyone leading this country ? Corruption everywhere, no action, no punishement, total impunity… things don’t change in Thailand. They just get worse.

It’s depressing.

And by the way, regarding the rice crisis, we can read an important detail given by TNA : “The current volume of rice in the country’s stockpiles is less than half of that compared to last year — which was at about 4.4 million tonnes“…

Might be just obsolete? I mean so called normal loss from warehouses, gone bad, rats eaten etc. After all India is a real bad, worse?, example how to mess up storage of food. If I am not wrong, one third of their food production is lost due to wrong storage etc.

Well “missing” does not mean “rotten”, “destroyed”, “put in the garbage”….
    😉

Furthermore, it’s not the first time that we get informations regarding “missing” stockpiles of rice, especially with stockpiles managed by the government.

With the prices skyrocketting, it’s almost a certitude that the problem has worsen.

Last point : the government has decided to use the army to help to guard the stockpiles… That should be sign. A powerfull one.
