Highways, toll fees : +33 to +50 %… in 2011 !

Bravo to the Department of Highways (Ministry of Transports) to give us such long notice ! This is serious work. And serious inflation (between +33 and +50 % !).

The Director-General of the Department of Highways says the Cabinet has agreed to modify its toll fees, and the new rate will be introduced in 2011.

Mr. Nikorn says the motorway fees will be raised by one baht per kilometer during the initial stage.

Mr. Nikorn says motorists traveling to the eastern region via motorways are currently subject to pay 30 baht at each checkpoint, or 90 baht in total. He says when the new rate is introduced, they will have to pay 120 baht for the same route [that’s a 33 % increase].

He says those who use another motorway starting from King Rama IX Road, Lad Krabang checkpoint, and Panthong checkpoint currently pay 60 baht, but with the new rate, they will have to pay 90 baht [that’s a whooping +50 %) ! (PRD)

But again, why 2011 ?

Why +50 % ?

It remains a mystery. πŸ˜‰
