Yet another plague : football gambling for Euro 2008

Global oil crisis, financial crisis and local political crisis… but hopefully the thai authorities always find an innovative way to entertain us.

I’m speaking about another plague : football gambling. And even worse : football gambling for teenagers.

They have already booze, sex, drugs (and bad music)… so can you imagine ? Gambling ? It’s a nightmare.

But be cool, they take care of it. Vehemently. And with very high spirit.

Thailand’s Ministry of Education has come up with 11 measures to prevent students from betting in the upcoming Euro Cup 2008 football event.

Permanent Secretary for Education Charuaypon Torranin voiced her alarm regarding the possibility that Thai students might take part in gambling during the Euro Cup 2008 football event, scheduled from June 7-29. The ministry issued eleven measures to tackle the problem.

The measures include asking for cooperation from parents and teachers to look after the children and their expenses.

Parents were urged to monitor their children’s mobile phone and Internet use, as both can be used to contact bookmakers. Schools were asked to set up a network of teachers to prevent football-related gambling in classrooms, corridors and schoolyards playgrounds across the nation.

Parents with problems can contact the ministry through the hot line 1579.

Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Police ordered setting up of centres to suppress gambling at Euro Cup 2008. Almost 1,500 police stations across the country were assigned to have special teams to handle football gambling. (TNA)

Yes ladies and gentlemen, not 10, not 12, not 9 but “11 MEASURES” ! 😉

And some of those are really startling… “asking for cooperation from parents” !

Sleep well.
