Dr Strangelove goes to the temple : Cambodia fears an “imminent state of war”

You’re sure that your name is not Alice and that you don’t live in Wonderland ?

Well, think again.

-At the request of Cambodia, United Nations has included the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia in its emergency session scheduled on July 24.

-Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong claims he feared an “imminent state of war” (Nation)

And on the thai side, we have also some very nice lunatics. Consider this one :

Chamlong Srimuang, a co-leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy, Wednesday called on the government to pull Thailand out of Unesco’s membership. (Nation)

Amazing huh ? Next step : cut diplomatic relations with France and expulse the ambassador, because french map of the temple area is part of the problem ??? !!!

I mean how can we seriously find a proper solution with such people… ?

We are in full comedy gear, with auto-fuelled hysteria, linked to many and conflicting agendas…

Anyway the good point is : when thais and cambodians excite themselves about a few km2 of land… they don’t think about the running inflation, diesel prices, declining purchasing power, the corruption etc.

And this is priceless for the politicians. 😉

meanwhile, in the deep south, Buddhist monks are being murdered, school teachers are being murdered, village headman are being murdered, and a well-armed and organized group works hard every day to take Thailand’s three southern provinces out of Thailand into a separate state…….

It was all because of one man – Thaksin. Period. It reminds me of last year’s strained relation with Singapore in the case of ShinCorp’s sale. But this one is much more serious and could possibly cost human lives, including soldiers and innocent villagers from both sides.

Most Thais do not blame either Singapore or Cambodia for the rift. We blame our very own corrupt people.

the problems in the south of Thailand started long before Thaksin was born and the various generals who have been in charge over the years and generations have shown themselves to be either corrupt or incompetent in handling the problems in the south.

Blaming every problem in Thailand on Thaksin might make someone feel better, but it is hardly an accurate analysis of Thailand’s various problems and their complex histories.

For instance, how did it come to pass that Thailand ended up as the ruler of three Malay muslim provinces of so little apparent value and why is the present hysteria about a small Hindu temple pushing the much larger problem of the southern insurgency and possible loss of these provinces to the side?

    Chris:

Yes, the problems in the south of Thailand started long before Thaksin was born. However, fact is violence had been suppressed until Thaksin came to power and dissolve 2 most effective organizations.

We are not blaming every problem in Thailand on Thaksin here but we are trying to present the truth.

Lastly, Chris, we are talking about the Preah Vihear crisis here.

Thaksin is about to get the concession to operate a large scale casino in Cambodia’s Goh Gong province at the same time Noppadon Pattama, without any public consent, went to sign the deal with Cambodia. It is a coincidence, I guess.

You mean the mighty Thai army who recently just receive a boost of “slush fund” and those tank that top the time for coup in Bangkok might actually have a chance go to war?

Chamlong Srimuang, a co-leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy, Wednesday called on the government to pull Thailand out of Unesco’s membership.
Sure, let’s delist our UNESCO heritage site and close our country also. Have a book barbeque and cultural revolution! Oh, Pol Pot would be proud…

Let’s kill the Jews, they are the cause of all our problems (that’s a metaphor, by the way).
