Chart : sales of commercial cars drop in june

Source Bank Of Thailand, tables EC_EI_015 and EC_EI_016).

The number of commercial cars sold in june dropped by 20,9 % compare to june 2007.

We need to go back to january 2007, august 2004 and january 2004 to find lower figures.

On the other hand, the sales of passengers cars remained strong at 20 500 units, a +29,5 % increase year-on-year.

Businesses reduce their investments, confronted to a challenging environment and higher fuels costs… It’s obviously a bad sign for the coming months. It will weight on the GPD.

But the thai individuals, apparently, don’t care.

Good for them.

Fooled by the fuels subsidy ? Cars are too charged with status mojo, making them totally inelastic to oil prices and economic environment ? Last chance in a hurry to buy fuel efficient cars ?
