Infamy : doctors refuse to treat injured policemen

Doctors of the Chulalongkorn Hospital Wednesday refused to treat police injured during Tuesday’s clashes with protesters.

Doctor Suthep Kolcharnwit of the hospital’s medical school said the boycott of police was a measure to denounce police’s use of excessive violence against the protesters.

Suthep said Chulalongkorn doctors would seek cooperation from doctors of other hospitals to boycott police as well. (Nation)

What a burning shame ! Those doctors are going against all the rules… They show that they’re nothing more than a bunch of third-world individuals without any moral values.

It’s shocking that nobody tried to prevent this insanity.

Shame on them. Shame on Thailand.

UPDATE
At last !

Chulalongkorn Hospital has moved quickly to disavow doctors who refuse to treat sick or injured police officers, saying they could be acting unethically, and risk professional punishment.

Chulalongkorn hospital executives have disavowed moves by doctors not to treat injured police officers in a protest over the violent reaction to disperse demonstrators on Tuesday.

The hospital, which works under the auspices of the Thai Red Cross Society, has a duty to treat all patients regardless of their political leanings, hospital deputy director Tirapong Jaroenwit insisted yesterday. (Bangkok Post)

I think these doctors are doing the right thing. These policemen shot at innocent protesters, PAD’s first-aid tents, ambulances and the Queen’s medical team.

It is the right thing that these policemen should be left bleeding and dying slowly. Serve them right!

  2. 2 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 10:12 am

The next thing is to deny any medical treatment for Chief National Police, MPs, Ministers and Prime Ministers.

  3. 3 FDL 8 October 2008 at 10:17 am

I will have to agree with TC. The doctors foremost duty is to treat the ill, the diseased and the injured WITHOUT PREJUDICE to their political affiliations or creed. Those policemen were taking orders believing their duty to enforce the law.

But of course I can understand IF a dentist would elect to extract teeth from TRT/PPP party members without anaesthesia . . .

  4. 4 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 10:27 am

The reason that I support this Chulalongkorn doctor’s action is that I believe a conscious policeman is capable to use his own judgment when receiving orders. He is capable to assess whether the orders (e.g throwing grenades at protesters) are legal. If he sees it as illegal, then he should stage a form of disobedience to his blood-thirsty commanders.

I wouldn’t receive an order from my crooked boss to steal money from the company even if I would be fired by my boss. It is better than getting thrown into jail later.

  5. 5 ThaiCrisis 8 October 2008 at 10:36 am

No, no, no… Doctors and policemen do not have the same moral requirements. This is precisely why doctors have a special job, and this is precisely why it’s not honest to compare both.

Doctor have to treat, any patient, without consideration about gender, politics, ideology etc. Period.

To say that policemen could have refused an order, to justify that the doctors can boycott a patient… is really an intellectual fraud.

    It’s absolutly not justifiable.

  6. 6 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 10:41 am

The first guy who lost his feet is in serious condition because his foot bone was smashed badly into tiny pieces by the bomb blast and they are clogging the blood flow throughout his body. This is life-threatening. He remains in the ICU. The doctor cannot guarantee his survival.

4 more are also facing similar fate.

  7. 7 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 10:53 am

    EXCEPTION:
The doctors say this boycott measure does not extend to off-uniform police. So any police officer must take off police uniform before the doctor begins treatment.

This is obviously not against any moral value and medical ethics.

  8. 8 dooda 8 October 2008 at 11:21 am

“They show that they’re nothing more than a bunch of third-world individuals without any moral values”

I don’t appreciate the link of third-world individual to lack of moral values. I hope its unintentional… since lack of or having the moral values is clearly not about being first world or thrid world person.

The doctor refusing treatment is unethical. Also, how can you tell which are the good police and which are bad. However, if chinesethai say is true and it’s just about having to take off the uniform first, then it’s not so bad, but i still think the patient should feel welcomed at the hospital. The doctors can protest outside office hours if they like or issue statements but during the work they should treat patients equally, it’s their duty.

by the way, i don’t think this Suthep person is representative of the Thai doctors. My guess is many in the medical profession are sympathetic to the injured PAD (many medical groups issued the statements last month when there was police violence against PAD) and angry at police, but they would still treat the police well if injured. I don’t think Suthep will be successful in asking the other doctors to join him, hopefully.

  9. 9 Bedwyr 8 October 2008 at 11:59 am

I agree with ThaiCrisis here, and cannot see any legitimate or reasonable way of disagreeing.

The doctors job is to treat sick or injured people, not to pass judgement on their personal beliefs, policies or sexual orientation. Even convicted criminals in sensible societies get medical care; even those on death row.

The doctors in this case are clearly no better than the THAI pilot who decided not to let politicians of a flavour different to his board his plane. He will be rightly suspended.

Anyone care to argue that Thais are not just like 10-year-old children now? They simply have no rational control over their instinctive responses. Obviously all of the 10 national brain cells were in use already…

  10. 10 Anon 8 October 2008 at 1:29 pm

Disgusting. What are they going to do: turn away the policeman whose lung has been penetrated with a steel pike? Refuse to treat the policeman whose legs were crushed when run over by a truck?

The conduct of the physicians is a slap in the face of the Thai medical profession. They should have their licenses revoked.

  11. 11 UncleBen 8 October 2008 at 1:34 pm

Those doctors that pick and choose their patient based on their political believes is nothing better than those individual protester who receives 500 baht a day just for being there.

    my .02

  12. 12 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 1:43 pm

    UncleBen:

Then you are no different from the doctors you just accused of picking their patients based on political believes. You are also accusing the individual protesters of receiving 500 Baht a day. Show me your evidence. Otherwise, you are just as disgusting as those doctors.

Can you see why even a doctor lost his temper?

And this is how Thai police fire tear gas into the protesters.

  13. 13 soeso 8 October 2008 at 1:48 pm

The hospital has made the clarification which I heard via TV interview during newstime that any suggestion of boycott of the police is expression of individual view of doctor and is not the hospital policy.
The spokesperson confirmed that the hospital will treat all patients equally in accordance with professional ethics. It was also confirmed that there are policemen currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

  14. 14 fall 8 October 2008 at 2:28 pm

    What a morally righteous doctor!
Now, let us also refuse treatment to criminal and convict in jail. For they definitely must have committed illegal and immoral act and are to be righteously left for death.
Oh, I saw that guy eat PORK! This is vegetarian season and I am a muslim. Cow are holy-animal and he have committed grave sin to be righteously left to die!

This doctor should answer to medical board to defend his professional license.

  15. 15 Loderunner 8 October 2008 at 2:48 pm

This is atrocious behavior by a member of the medical profession. Medical personnel in war have behaved beter. If the policeman behaved illegally, there are specific penalties in law. The doctor is not the judge and executor.

  16. 16 Bangkok Pundit 8 October 2008 at 3:53 pm

The doctors say this boycott measure does not extend to off-uniform police. So any police officer must take off police uniform before the doctor begins treatment.

So Thai police officers who have been shot or stabbed should wait outside until they take off all their clothes?

  17. 17 chinesethai 8 October 2008 at 3:59 pm

    Bangkok Pundit:
Before doctor can begin treatment, the patients’ clothes already would have to be taken off. Nothing’s wrong with his announced measure. Think!

In the meantime, this is what your beloved Thai police said about the victim…

I suppose we will have to make sure our political views are not worn on our sleeve when patronizing an elite run facility such as Thai International or upscale shopping centers, where actually one is automatically made to feel like a piece of dog excrament regardless of showing political views…just being a foreigner in the company of a dark skinned thai will suffice to set that nose in the air mechanism… and wassup with thai chinese…did it get lost in the wrong forum?

  19. 19 krunthep 8 October 2008 at 4:42 pm

These doctors are miserables and should be expelled from the medical association and barred from working as doctors for flouting their Hippocratic oaths. The Chulalongkorn hospital should be boycotted until these doctors are fired. The fact that there are police officers requiring medical treatment is evidence of the rioters’ use of excessive violence against the police. Why are they not refusing treatment to them?

  20. 20 Hoktula 8 October 2008 at 5:20 pm

    in civilized countries doctors make
    an “Oath of Hippocrates” !

“I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings…”

“Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice…”

    4. Never to do deliberate harm to anyone for anyone else’s interest.
    6. To keep the good of the patient as the highest priority.

further, there is Geneva Declaration of the
General Assembly of the World Medical Association:

    * I will not permit considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political affiliation, race, sexual orientation, social standing or ANY other factor to intervene between my duty and my patient;
    * I will maintain the utmost respect for human life;
    * I will not use my medical knowledge to violate human rights and civil liberties, even under threat;

I am sure that Thailand must be a signatory of this Declaration.
or at least being a Buddhist country with high regard to human life and well being – Thailand must have some similar obligations of practicing physicians !

and there is absolutely NO ANY excuse whatsoever for the such irresponsible act of that doctor.

and I challenge chinesethai for his advocating such doctor’s SHAMELESS disregard of human value and to his duty to be 100% IMPARTIAL !

    chinesethai:
“I think these doctors are doing the right thing.”

SHAME on you ! u have no slightest idea of what is “right thing” for doctor ! and you mislead some other people who might be equally ignorant by such irresponsible statements !!!!!!!!!
are you not human? or perhaps you consider that injured person as not human that he must be denied medical treatment?

don’t talk sh1t like that – unless you know what you’re talking about and realize the full extent of the gravity of your such statements !

  21. 21 Hoktula 8 October 2008 at 5:30 pm

    THANK YOU, krunthep !

you just got ahead of me and said the same thing. and confirmed that indeed in Thailand “Hippocratic oath” is also taken by doctors at their graduation !

I totally agree with you – such doctors HAS NO RIGHT to remain a doctor – because he has broken his OATH, which is sacred !

and you make another VERY good point which I agree with:

The fact that there are police officers requiring medical treatment is evidence of the rioters’ use of excessive violence against the police.

VERY TRUE ! and how hypocritical it is for PAD and for media and many Lawyers to accuse police of “bloodshed” and violence upon “peaceful” protesters. PEACEFUL ? what a big LIE ! they use bombs and guns – not to mention all sorts of sticks, swords and pikes ! and NOBODY of those who advocates them – as “chinesethai” EVER mentions that !

what a SPIN – to twist the truth upside down so much and paint PAD-thugs as “peaceful” !!!!!!! they are THUGS and practically terrorists !

  22. 22 Hoktula 8 October 2008 at 5:50 pm

    “chinesethai”:
“If he sees it as illegal, then he should stage a form of disobedience to his blood-thirsty commanders.”

WHAT is illegal? that is Parliament building, a place where government has to convene and make decisions important for nation !
and WHAT RIGHT PAD-thugs have to disrupt the work of Government?

yes, they may PROTEST ONLY – but NOT sabotage and conduct TERRORIST acts – as seize government house. this is CRIMINAL activities.
and criminals have to be treated accordingly – that is axactly why Thai Court has issued warrants for 9 PAD leaders.

so, police actions are 1’000’000% LEGAL ! and they should have done that long time ago – and in any civilized country it would’ve been done already. instead they have been too lenient and gave PAD-thugs enough time to cook up home-made bombs etc.

PEACEFUL ? I can’t simply stand such a shameless lie.

and I can tell you who are “blood-thirsty commanders” – it is Sonthi and Chamlong and their buddies. that’s why they have escalated all this violence and PROVOKED police to misstep so that to raise an outcry “Oh, police uses violence”

WHAT “blood-thirst” was in police actions ?
they have done the RIGHT thing! they didn’t use guns or excessive brutal force. all this BS which Thai media presents – is only sensationalist lie ! and all of them are thoroughly BIASED.

“chinesethai” – I suspect that you must be one of those “hi-so” elitists who runs this country and gives no any FART about “khon tamada” (ordinary people) !!! prove me wrong !
your very nick here “chinesethai” already says a lot!
because it is no any secret that majority (if not all) of elite in Thailand who control all the important positions in government, army, business etc. – are precisely “thai chinese” !
no wonder that you have no any slightest respect for rural folks, real poor people by supporting the PAD-MOBOCRACY which will only deprive MAJORITY of Thai people of their rights ! and those are people who FEED you – because they produce the food you eat! but you want to establish PAD system of 30-70% – which is SHAMELESS discrimination against your fellow countrymen ! SHAME !

  23. 23 chang dek 8 October 2008 at 9:15 pm

You GO Hoktula, I need say no more….chineseytai will set off its own bomb by mistake, like the ones that went off yesterday, planted by PAD and blew up in their faces, and they blame the police…cry babies…

  24. 24 chinesethai 9 October 2008 at 1:10 am

    Oct 6th (Hoktula):

Blah…blah…blah… You can keep distorting the truth however you want. Show me how the protesters first instigated violence. Show me.

Don’t twist the truth, please. Time will punish these thugs in uniform and those who twists the truth.

I was not a big fan of Islamic fundamentalists. But I now appreciate how the violence in Southern Thailand has escalated to this stage. They suffered from brutal treatment by the Police but were shut up in the name of “majority rules”.

  25. 25 thaichris 9 October 2008 at 9:38 am

In Thailand, the policemen swear to follow the law.Thailand is the country, where a condemnd criminal can become PM. In the land of smiles, a minister can say that he is not a gangster, but he is the boss of the gangsters (which is better than belonging to the mob).

In Thailand, that mouth opens before the brain starts to work (which is good as it provides a lot of input for satirical essays). So don’t take serious what people in this country say.

I will come tomorrow atz nne… Give me five minutes … Revenue is equal profit … I will repay my debits …

Jut relax and don’t take anything serious. Even a doctor who says, he will not look after policemen.

the THUGS are PAD ! and not simple thugs – terrorists !

no need to show you anything ! the FACTS show themselves: the very fact that PAD has laid “siege” to parliament building and b4 that seized Government House – can NEVER justify their actions in CIVILIZED world as “peaceful protesters”. but only as MILITIA insurgent terrorist sabotage acts !

by the very USE of such words “peaceful protesters” – SHAMELESS LIE – you expose yourself as a delusional demagogue ! PEACEFUL ? what about pikes and bombs and guns fired upon UNARMED police?

what about BEATING REPORTERS and seizure of NBT? what about PARALYZING the railway and airports of the whole country ? what about Sonthi’s claims that “to cut off electricity & water for NORMAL people in Bkk is Ok”? what about BOMB which has blown that Toyota?

last, but not the least – what about recent PAD’s plans revealed by Gen. Anupong to “papa Prem” – that PAD wanted to BURN Bangkok?

    SHAME !

no any word than: terrorists ! perhaps also: fascists.

better you just shut the F** up – if you still want to keep at least SOME credibility ! it is YOU who can do nothing else than “Blah…blah…blah… ” ! coz you only expose yourself as a damned fool in here by advocating THUGS !

“Don’t twist the truth”? LOOK WHO IS TALKING !
a person who uses such a BLUNT LIE as “peaceful protesters” !

    WHO twists the TRUTH?

barbed wire, practically speaking MILITARY installations around their camp as well as surrounding Parliament !!!! WHERE in the world, according to WHICH international (including THai) laws – such actions and beefed up MILITARY installations and equipment can be seriously accepted as ANYTHING even close to “peaceful” ?

whom to you think you’re trying to fool? only yourself !
yeah, perhaps some uneducated rural folks who are being PAID 500-1000 Baht a day (my wife told me – she went to visit her mom in province, and her mom said to her that many ppl were offered money and some even went there and got paid !) to come to Bkk and join the protests for a day or 2 ! and most of them don’t even know what’s really going on !

“twist the truth” – wuahahahahaha ! have you no any SHAME left at all ? you accuse someone else precisely in what actually YOU are doing !

and yet you have an arrogance to challenge me to “show you” anything? it is YOU who must show the evidence that will prove me wrong – that Sonthi didn’t say such things as:

    1) we’ll cut off electricity and water for Bkk. if ordinary ppl will suffer – never mind, what to do. goals justify the means.
    2) time for peaceful actions are over;

or that PAD does NOT have weapons
or that PAD didn’t throw ping-pong bombs and fire guns
or that PAD didn’t blow up that Toyota car
or that PAD did NOT plan to burn Bangkok

in Sep in clashes with DAAD PAD has shot DEAD some of their rivals ! PEACEFUL ?

“I was not a big fan of Islamic fundamentalists. But I now appreciate how the violence in Southern Thailand has escalated to this stage.”

here finaly you expose you TRUE face: as a BLUNT advocate of terrorism acts ! you “appreciate”? I have no doubt ! that’s why you openly support these TERRORIST PAD THUGS ! shame on you and the whole chinese-thai ELITE (hi-so) who supports PAD ! you blood-suckers are SCREWING the whole country and plunge it into CHAOS !
you want to install a FASCIST dictatorship, an ELITIST MOBOCRACY where MAJORITY of ppl (ban-nork) will be DEPRIVED of their vote rights ! you cling to power SO MUCH that you do everything possible to create enough provocation for Army to take over again and make another coup ! WHERE IS YOUR CONSCIENCE ? using HMK’s name for your TERRORIST actions ? !!! SHAME !

never mind – as I already said that perhaps it would be better if Somchai resigns and let PAD take over government. THEN let the REAL Panthamit – PEOPLE, not elite – raise and kick ass of you suckers !

that is what you are afraid of actually ! and that’s why you suckers have supported Junta’s “military Constitution”, and that’s why you want to “reform” the whole legislative system – so that ARMY has the TOTAL control of the country and “ban-nork” are kept in firm control !

but I can tell you what: no matte how much you suckers cling to power, you CAN NOT win on the long term ! coz sooner or later “ban-nork” and poor ppl will overthrow you, blood-sucking ELITE !
and the only thing you can do is – to postpone it just a little bit.

this process has started long time ago, in 70s, then ’92 was a crucial victory for PEOPLE, and in 1997 it was PEOPLE’s Constitution ! but junta shitted on it !

so, you CAN NOT stop this process, so, count your days !
coz the REAL Panthamit is coming soon and then your PAD thugs will get what they deserve ! you are greatly OUTNUMBERED, you are a MINORITY ! so, you will lose in the end !

“in the name of “majority rules”

guess what? that is precisely the meaning of Democracy !

so, if you don’t like it – better DO NOT use words “democracy” and “democratic” ! be honest – CHANGE the name of PAD !!!!!!!!!
because here you CLEARLY show that you DESPISE the Democracy.

and PAD has exposed itself countless time by its disregard for DEMOCRATIC means of resolving the differences – like Referendum !

do you even know the meaning of word “democracy”?
it means “rule by people, for the people”.

so, at least be HONEST and tell your buddy-thugs in PAD as Sonthi and Chamlong to CHANGE the name !
because it is NOT “People’s alliance for Democracy” ! how can it be if you say it yourself that you do not accept the “majority rule” ?

so, better rename it into something like “Elite’s Alliance for Mobocracy” or for “Dictatorship” (EAM or EAD) !

otherwise you can’t be serious in accusing me of “twisting the truth” – while you OPENLY despise the “majority rule” (= DEMOCRACY) and yet you keep talking tall talk that PAD is “People’s alliance for Democracy” and cares about PEOPLE !

what a bunch of shameless demagogue losers !

you can fool some uneducated ban-nork may be. but don’t try to give here this sh1t ! coz ppl here czn see you through as a shameless demagogue !

  29. 29 Hoktula 9 October 2008 at 11:17 am

    chang dek

    thanks for support !

but I can tell you that – they are NOT cry babies at all !
they are DANGEROUS terrorists ! they only cleverly pretend being “cry babies”. because their leader Sonthi is a multi-media tycoon who knows PERFECTLY the power of mass media, of propaganda machine and of Public Relations campaign ! more than that – they have MONEY, a lot of money, to launch and support their whole DECEPTION campaign !
(yellow clothes, hand clappers, HMK’s portraits on their shields, stage in front of UN, their own TV channel, their magazine and practically ALL newspapers bribed by them)

so, all this is very well planned !

therefore you should not underestimate them and simply dismiss as “cry babies” – oh, no, very far from that !

and in fact the passiveness of Thai people, especially here in Bangkok, and especially educated people as yourself – and dismissal of PAD and its actions as mere nuisance – is one of the ROOT CAUSES of all this mess !

read the history ! do you know how Hitler has come to power?
because educated and intelligent people like you have ignored him and dismissed as not so serious threat !

I am telling you – this passive attitude of majority of people towards PAD plays a main part in why PAD is able to PARALYZE the whole country ! because even though you KNOW that they do wrong and they create more and more disturbance even for middle class in BKK – most of people like yourself still GREATLY underestimate them ! I know why! it is very nicely said Anupong just recently: “we care about country and HMK. we don’t care about government – it can come and go. but army will stay…” same thing told me some educated Thai man when I aksed his opinion about PAD: “I don’t care. I care about King only”

well, if you care about King – then how you can tolerate that PAD-thugs use King’s name for their TERRORIST acts? that they put King’s photos on their wooden shields and mislead ignorant uneducated people simply by wearing yellow clothes ?

so, chang dek, my friend – be carefull, DO NOT underestimate PAD ! as I said – they are NOT “cry babies”! do you know who they really are? the very same ultra-right-wing mob which as mass-murdered and raped students in 1976 ! that’s what they really are. and they only shamelessly and cleverly EXPLOIT the feelings of people by using name Panthamit ! in reality they are – Pantha-mit – a trouble makers. they DESPISE the real Democracy !

so, I know that people like yourself are reluctant to take actions and confront PAD and challenge them, because you DO love your country and HMK – I know. you think “National Unity”… yes, it is good idea! BUT what national unity can be when PAD-thugs want to create a DICTATORSHIP ELITIST MOBOCRACY ? in which only 30% “khon tamada” (ordinary people) will be able to VOTE and other 70% will be APPOINTED by hi-so and elite and army ? do you WANT this kind of “Unity” ? or do you seriously think that it is a “Unity” ?

but again, I understand that DECENT people like you (unlike “chinesethai” who OPENLY advocates terrorist acts) – you don’t want anything to do with confrontation and fighting…

I understand that very well and my respect to you for that!

    BUT

the very least you can do is: DO NOT underestimate PAD !
you should have CLEAR understanding of what they are.
so, no need for you to go and fight with PAD – I will never say that. however, at least you should have FULL CLEAR awareness of what they really are and what they actually doing !

so, once again : they are NOT a “cry babies” !
they are clever professional deceivers and terrorist insurgents !

and you can see the evidence in the latest words of “chinesethai” :

“I was not a big fan of Islamic fundamentalists. But I now appreciate how the violence in Southern Thailand has escalated to this stage.”

  30. 30 Mama San 9 October 2008 at 6:20 pm

Don’t bullshit if you do not understand the situation. The Police in Thailand have their own hospital. Ask them if their doctors will treat the injured PAD demonstrators. They would tell you that they give priority to the Police Force. That hospital should be the first stop for injured policemen.

Chulalongkorn Hospital administrators may say otherwise, but the doctors there have their choice as to whom to treat first. Besides, the 2nd Princess has already charged them (through Royal Thai Red Cross) to take care of the PAD demonstrators on a priority basis.

They are alreasy fully occupied with this responsibility in addition to their normal workload. Have you ever visited their hospital to see how many patients they have waiting to see a doctor? You could wait almost a whole day before your number comes up.

How many patients can a doctor “see” each day and still be able toi provide reasonable professional medical service? Also, as doctors they saw how barbaric some of the police were attacking and hitting the unarmed, peaceful demonstrators with bombs and guns beside tear gas. Doctors are also human beings and they have the right to protest just like you and me.

And, why did the police hit the demonstrators with teargas canisters instead of shooting them up in the air or on empty ground as per international practice? To me, they have the intention to maim and kill some of the protestors. That is barbaric and unacceptable, PERIOD!

Therefore, shut up if you do not know the situation. DON’T BULLSHIT like a lot of farangs who have a superiority complex and think that they are smarter than Thais.

  31. 31 chang dek 9 October 2008 at 8:52 pm

Mama San’s used to like Guava people…. Oh Thailand will never be the same…

  32. 32 ThaiCrisis 10 October 2008 at 1:07 am

->Mama San : don’t try to patronize me and give me the regular thai escape manoeuvre : “foreigners can not understand Thailand”.

If you peruse my blog you’ll see that I probably understand better the political situation than most of the thais themselves.

That’s the big advantage of being an outsider, like many thais like to put it : i’m not prisonner of ready-to-eat ideas.

As for the doctors, I stick to my point :
1-to say that barbarics police actions (and certainly they are) justify such a cut into medical ethics is just a cheap rethoric effect.

2-medical ethics can not be blended, or compared with something else. Medical principles are superior to any other considerations.

3-what you’re defending is just the law of the jungle or even worst : “an eye for an eye”. You hit my people, I’m angry ? So I won’t provide you medical assistance.
This is not civilization. It’s a highway to the past.

  33. 33 Bedwyr 10 October 2008 at 1:42 am

Unfortunately, your rant against foreigners demonstrates exactly the point you are trying to disprove.

I can’t speak for all foreigners of course but do check out the Wealth of Nations on Wiki.

Most foreigners do appear to be smarter than Thais, depending on how you define ‘foreigners’ of course. Want proof? Read the newspapers my friend. Thailand is in this mess because Thais are smart? Thais are in this mess because they cannot control their egos and they don’t know how to make rationality prevail over emotional outburst. Ask any psychologist. Read what Thais psychologists have published.

    Hoktula:

Where did you learn the concept of democracy from?

You again failed to prove that PAD first instigated violence. Rant is not a proof.

    Shame.

P.S. The world order has shifted. Some traditional values that the west had imposed on the world as universal ones may no longer be respected as they were proven impractical.

It is strange to see a guy who loves to call himself a human right activist indirectly supporting bloody crackdown on the innocent protesters by denouncing the doctors.

Pokpong Lawansiri (ปกป้อง ลาวัณย์ศิริ) is Giles Ungpakorn’s lackey, who supports harsh crackdown against protesters. FYI.

The Medical Council of Thailand on Thursday opposed the use of violence to solve any conflict, while urging all medical doctors to help patients without discrimination and to observe international humanitarian principles, according to Somsak Lohlekha, M.D., Chairman of the Medical Council of Thailand.

Dr. Somsak said the statement was approved by council committees from 16 medical institutions nationwide representing 38,000 doctors.

The Medical Council issued the statement in response to moves by some doctors who vowed not to treat injured police officers to protest the use of force against protesters.

Meanwhile, Thai Red Cross Society secretary-general Dr. Phan Wannamethee and executives of Chulalongkorn Hospital, The Thai Red Cross Society and Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Medicine together issued a statement affirming their stance to treat patients regardless of political belief, race, nationality and religion.

Meanwhile, Dr. Suthep from Chulalongkorn apologised for having announced a boycott of medical service to the police, and the emotional remarks he had made at a press conference said he was sorry to have made statements that may have had a negative impact against the hospital.

    This should close the discussion.

    Definitely.

At least, the courageous action by Dr.Suthep of Chulalongkorn Hospital has reminded those blood-thirsty crooks that they cannot be complacent about having ‘magic’ guns and grenades in their hands.
