When Chalerm speaks about “brain” and “Abhisit Obamark”

Puea Thai list-MP Chalerm Yubamrung yesterday labelled the Democrat party-led government as “brainless” and accused it of coming up with nothing new except re-introducing the populist policies of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. […]

Mr Chalerm said it is an undeniable fact that measures offering people free rides on buses and trains and discounts on water and electricity bills during surging energy prices were an idea of Mr Thaksin, not Mr Samak. “Let the Obamark government do what it wants. This government is brainless,” he said.

The name “Obamark” was given to Mr Abhisit whose nickname is Mark and who is often compared with US president-elect Barack Obama in a sense that he too has pledged to bring real changes to Thai politics. (Bangkok Post)

I’ve got no affection for Chalerm (previous Interior Minister and Health Minister, read here)… and it’s particularily tasty to hear him speaking about “brain”… šŸ˜‰ But he’s right.

For the moment, and as far as economy is concerned, Abhisit is just following the path of Thaksin, Samak, Somchai… The same good old recipes and tricks.

Thailand is going to need much more to be able to face the global economic crisis…

Probably the first thing approaching sensible that Chalerm has said in a while.

    He’s still a shithead though.

I don’t think any government can do much in the crisis but to mitigate the impact. Take Canada’s Harper Administration as an example. Being criticized for not doing enough, he can’t do much either but to bail out the subsidiaries of U.S. Big Three operating in Canada and provide backstops for some institutions that need them. But like Australia, New Zealand, China, and Thailand, Canada will be the least wounded because their banks were not involved in those derivatives dealings and are well-capitalized.

I don’t take Dr.Chalerm’s words seriously. (Do you know that this guy obtained a PhD degree?) This opposition has no capable persons to lead. Sanoh is afraid to do the job. None wants the job. The most capable appears to be only Dr.Chalerm while the rest of their MPs are ….. well…. deadwood.

If the Abhisit Administration is to collapse, it will be PAD that would cause it. How could you miss a small piece of news this morning? Ruangkrai Leekijwattana, a pro-PAD senator, has formally sought a court review whether the Democrats have breached the constitutions. This could lead to an eventual dissolution of Democrat Party and an end to Puea Thai and Friends of Nevin MPs. An auditor by profession, Ruangkrai is the one who submitted cases to the court, which have resulted in the dissolutions of both TRT and PPP.
