Chart, Exports and imports per zone, per quarter (until Q4 2008)

With exports data for december (published on january 30) we can round up the year.

So here is an update of my chart : Exports per quarter, per zone of destination, in billions THB, from 2004 to 2008.

The peak exports is visible in Q3 (the real peak was in july)… Followed by the drop in Q4.

Here is the percentage of change, year on year (compared to Q4 2007).

Middle-East and Others still have a positive growth… For how long ? The drop for Asean and the group China is sharp… and bad luck… those 2 groups are the biggest customers in value for Thai exports…

Cisor effect.

And now, the same chart, but for imports.

The comparison year on year looks totally different.

check my “currency” category for views about THB, exchange rates etc.

I will try to make an update about this issue, soon.

For instance, I will show the good (and immediate effect) of a weaker THB on exports… One example : in USD terms, thai exports decreased in december by let’s say 13%… But in THB terms, by 7,60 %…
Exactly like I predicted, the more the crisis will hit the thai exports… the more the pressure about the issue of USD-THB exchange rate will increase within the thai business community, but also among politicians.
    It’s unavoidable.
And many other asian countries are facing the same temptation…

Thailand Crisis

Coup, Economic slowdown, Terror In the South... The situation is worsening in Thailand. Bumpy road like often before.

But this time, it's different.

The key to understand the present turmoil is the inevitable... succession of King Bhumibol.
