Indecency : Abhisit celebrates his inanity among millions of poors

Mr Abhisit said the handouts would help people on low incomes pay their bills and give them more some spending money.

The government would like to see more money circulation, but does not want people to spend lavishly, he said.

If you want to help the nation I ask that you buy Thai goods, eat Thai food and travel in Thailand,” Mr Abhisit said. (Bangkok Post)

Speaking to reporters after launching the Bt19 billion (US$509 million) programme, the prime minister said the cheques would help stimulate the country’s economy for a better standard living for low-income earners.

“The government does not want the recipients to spend the cheque on luxury items but to spend it in a way that would be of great benefit for their lives that would in turn help boost the country’s economy through buying Thai products and holidaying in Thailand,” the premier said.

Meanwhile, Korn Chatikavanij, Finance Minister, said the cash handouts would help boost the economic growth about 0.2 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and create about 80,000 jobs in line with the government’s stimulus package.

Around 10.5 million people who earn less than 15,000 baht per month and registered members of the Social Security Fund are entitled to receive the subsidies. (TNA)

It was a day of mixed reactions yesterday as close to a million people picked up their 2,000-baht cheque handouts from the government.

At City Hall, long lines of people queued from early morning to collect the money, paralysing traffic at the nearby Democracy Monument and Din So road. (Bangkok Post)

Better “standard of living” ? With 2000 THB ? When the global crisis is worsening ?

And what about the idea of the “boost to the economy” ? Even the sad clown Korn is able to calculate that 18 billions THB are equal… to 0,2 % of the country’s GDP !

What kind of liquid manure Abhisit does have into his brain ? It’s unbelievable.

And look at those pictures ! What do you see ? Africa. Desesperate people ready to queue for 6 hours to get 2000 THB. People with low income that are being told by the alleged Prime Minister that their life is about to change with those 2000 THB, that the economy of the country is going to start again, that they can pay their… bills.

Oh yeah ? And what about the month… after ? Huh ? What Abhisit will do ? What the people will do ?

Abhisit is dangerous.

I wrote right from the beginning of this circus that this “national bribe”, “one time hand out” would be dangerous, for one very simple reason : it creates high expectations.

Abhisit and all his Frankenstein government are toying with the feelings and the social reality of millions of people (fears, hopes and desesperation for many of them).

This is :

-very bad economy policy
-and insane politics

And what about this cheap nationalism ! ? “Eat thai and travel in Thailand ” ! WTF ! And is “traveling” not a luxury ?

People should get mad. Really. Now.

Abhisit, resignation.

[and as usual, we can admire the total… fog around any government action : they don’t even know how many people can qualify for this small orgy ! It started at 8 millions, then 8,5 then 9 and now, 10,5 millions… Anyway, who cares ? ]

Bred and circus for the people was the device i ancient Rome. Keep the people happy so we can live on their
sacrifices. And then the Roman Empire collapsed!!

Sure… But the roman circus games lasted… more than one month !

In a few weeks, the “hand out”, the “help-the-nation-cheques” will be forgotten. And what will happen then ?

Abhisit will have time to think about the human condition… And about his own downfall.

It is incredible, buy Thai products, eat Thai, where can one go with 2000b. This can be spent in a day, and after….

Wealthy Thais and Farang’s might spend the 2’000 Bath in a day. But for a ‘working class’ Thai who earns 6’000 to 7’000 Bath a day this amount realy helps. And the 10 million people who receive the check are from this ‘working class’.

The 2’000 Bath Check will surely not solve the crisis and it will not stop the downturn of the Thai economy but it will give the average Thai what he lives for: Some good hours and days going out with friends and spend this extra money – just have ‘samuk’ and ‘sabai’. It is the same live the ‘1 town – 1 million Bath’ programm of the previous gouvernement: Give people a good time and feeling.

What are governements there for? To please the population. And that is exactly what th Abhisit govenement (like any previous gorvernement) is doing.

You´re so naive. Do you honestly think that these crooks will not claim some reward from the people. Let your brain work for an hour or so, and may be you can figure out what it´s all about.

Naive ? Hum… I thought I was on the other side of the “looking-glass”…

In any case, 2000 THB today won’t ignite unconditional love for Abhisit tomorrow. Why ? Very simple : because we are going down.

The crisis is going to last. Long time.

And for that matter, Abhisit will pay. He will pay for all the frustrations and all the tensions. Expiatory victim.

There will be only one winner : Thaksin.

It’s one thing to feed shit to public, but another thing to believe in that shit you are spouting. Abhisit seems to contract that disease, that if he say something often enough, it will come true…

Populism is different from charity. But again, it’s a whole new ball game for the Dem. So didnt expect them to play it right anyway.

All it take is one little push, of how this 2000THB hand-out orgy was siphon to someone’s slush fund. That would be the straw that break the camel back.

Spot on, the winner will be Dr. T. never liked him much, having had the great misfortune to have worked with (not for) him in the early ’90.s
He is turning the heat up, and by May it seems reasonable to expect a lot more pressure on government and behind the scenes supporters.

So far, anecdotal evidence tells me that most 2k Bt recipients are being prudent: paying down credit card debt, saving for rainy day, etc.

The rainy day has arrived as job losses mount, salaries get frozen or cut, commissions lowered due to lower sales and for those in the service industries (including tourism) who rely much on tips, income is down. For many, there’s no question of spending the money on Sanuk.

Carfour and other stores are offering to take all of your 2k Bt in exchange for 2.2k of their store coupons. Many people are taking up the offers as it helps them buy necessities. These coupons could even become a secondary currency as people use the coupons to get a haircut and the barber then uses them to buy Head&Shoulders at Carfour. So much for helping Thai companies!
