Buses scandal : Abhisit is trying to save face and buy time… and Newin confesses half

When you have to sleep with the Devil… difficult to get out of the bed.

Here is the latest episode of the “Buses Saga”… a project initiated by Thaksin’s friends to make a rainfall of money… and then reactivated by the … ex Thaksin’s friends who are since last december (and their betrayal) the new Abhisit’s friends ! AKA the Newin’s group.

This bunch of MPs, king makers, have elected Abhisit. Abhisit owns them his position. This simple fact should disqualify him… But people wanted to believe in the “Obama Change Yes We Can” fantasy… 6 months after, they start to change their mind. At last !

Anyway. The Newin’s gang wants the honey pot now. Abhisit has to deliver. And he gave them the Transport Ministry. A good start.

But there is a problem : the scam about the buses is just too obvious. So Abhisit had to react and divert attention in order to avoid (postpone) the fall of his “Frankenstein Coalition”. So let’s give the hot potato to someone else, and delay the project. For one month.

But Abhisit is showing more and more haughtiness, symbol of most of thai politicians. He’s not afraid to lie anymore.

“What people want are cleaner buses with better services and networks. There is no question if this project should proceed. The question is what is the best way to acquire the bus: leasing or buying.

Then, we we have the final answer, we have to make sure that it is proceeded in the most transparent way,” he said.

The Cabinet on Wednesday agreed to have the National Economic and Social Development Board study the project, which apparently displeased the Bhum Jai Thai Party, a key coalition party, which initiated the project.

Abhisit said that the earlier study could not answer which is the better solution between leasing or buying. (Nation)

Sure there is not doubt that Bangkok needs new buses.

And sure, it’s very complicated to launch a public bid.

And very complicated to compute… the figures… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Instead of buying swedish fighthers for his military friends... instead of throwing away 20 billions THB… Abhisit should hire… an accountant. One would have been enough… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Abhisit is diving into an ocean of absolute ridicule.

It’s becoming really embarrassing… Can someone tell him ?

Now that the scandal is really big… it’s astonishing to see the speed of the politicians turning their jacket… Now, many of them agree to… buy the buses ! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (read here). I guess they have computed the data… during the night. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Eventually… Abhisit found the proper accountant.

And with a striking statement Newin tries a very audacious figure de style. To try to exonerate himself of corruption accusations… by confessing dirty politician hidden agenda !

This man is a genius. ๐Ÿ˜‰ What an impressive rethoric.

The whole thai politics life is synthesized in those few lines.

“Don’t think in such a complicated way about the project. The Bhumjaithai Party doesn’t want any money, but votes from millions of Bangkok people [in the next election],” he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar for party heavyweights in Sakon Nakhon.

“We want this group of voters to be reminded of our party whenever they use buses – the same way they did with [Thaksin’s] 30-baht universal health care scheme that won the hearts and minds of poor people,” he said. (Bangkok Post)

But don’t be fooled neither. The Newin Gang is still looking for the gold chest.

while there is such an exitment about hasty “cake sharing” (aka โ€œBuses Sagaโ€) – some other people also trying to get their own slice of “cake” :

AOT chases new luggage trolley deal

wait … oh, but Aot is also related to BJT, no ? ๐Ÿ˜‰
hmmmm… it seems precisly so :

“The AoT is offering 532.86 million baht for a seven-year contract. Tags had been signed up for the same amount.

Vichai Raksriaksorn, chairman of King Power International Group which reportedly showed interest in the new trolley deal, said yesterday the firm would not tender a bid.

King Power controls all commercial space at the passenger terminals.

    sweet, huh ? ๐Ÿ˜€

and this piece is simply too cartoonishly hillarious:

“Drivers who breach the zone could have their licences revoked and tour guides found working outside the specified area would have their photographs put up in public areas for condemnation.

    “condemnation” ?! o^0 LOL

    BTW talking about transport …

here was mentioned that SRT will be split into 2 entities :

    Cabinet approves SRT makeover

that was on June 3rd. today though the paln has changed:

SRT to be broken up into three organizations: PM

Speaking during his weekly TV programme, Abhisit said there will be a main organization of SRT in charge of investment and maintenance of the infrastructure and the government will be the one to shoulder the investment costs.

The second organization will be in charge of operating the trains and the third one will be in charge of managing properties and assets of the SRT, the prime minister said.

so, Dems are trying to get a grip on all the “tasty” morsels ? ๐Ÿ™‚ (as previousl was a case about corn selling – clash with tearful Commerce Minister … )

It is not Abhisit who is the clown, I think you are the one and
    you are embarassing us all.

Well, obviously I am embarassing you.
And I’m happy about that, because you belong probably to one of my target groups…
    Mission accomplished. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now, if you wish and if you are able to enrich the discussion with your own (?) views, I would be glad to hear them. But until now, you are quite… short.

But don’t give up : keep trying.

    Ouch, I bet that hurt.

Another tourist who thinks that Thai politicians are all shiny and happy and wonderful instead of stupid, dishonest and all-around shitty.

He will learn – in time.

Who can embarrass anybody with freedom of speech. Keep up the good work Thai Crisis. Hell of a job !
@ Pattaya maybe you can tell us what is so embarrassing?

There are always those who choose to take the blue pill. Ignorance is bliss.

    As to Newin, L’audace, l’audace, toujours l’audace!

somehow some people always feel embarrassed when … come across so REALISTIC information ! and they feel so strongly about it, that they have to speak up – although, nobody forces them too, and if htye would have kept quite , nobody even would knew that they are embarrassed or “lose face”.

so, it is simply hillarious that such people really embarrass themselves even more by … admiting that they are “embarrassed” by some seemingly innocent thing as well-intentioned eyes-opening REALISTIC assessment of situation ! ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL

I must be a masochist. I’m so embarrassed, I keep coming back for more.

“Masochist?” Me too George, it’s becoming an addiction I think ๐Ÿ˜‰

But seriously, folks (and Marvo): I feared that my attraction to this blog was a symptom of schadenfreude, but after some consideration, decided it’s not. I genuinely wish Thailand well, not only because I live here but also because I have real affection for the everyday people I have daily encounters with. This blog is about exposing inept, hypocritical, corrupt leadershipโ€”the kind of ‘leadership’ that is selling down the river those everyday people I have come to care about.

I can’t comment on how effective this blog is, but it’s nice to be able to vent. So, thanks, TC.

George, you echo my thoughts and frustrations exactly.

    Well said that man.
