Lese-majeste, latest fart from the military : “keep a close watch on websites…”

Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon on Thursday ordered all military units and their commanders to keep a close watch for websites running reports with lese majeste content, defence spokesman Col Thanathip Sawangsaeng said.

Pol Gen Prawit issued the order at today’s meeting of the Defence Council.

All military units and their commanders who come across such websites were to coordinate with the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to take legal action against them, the spokesman said. (Bangkok Post)

What mosquito bit them ? Why they don’t try to take care of their future yellow submarine, instead of farting like this, in public ? Why now ? And for what purposes ? A greazy individual initiative ? Or a calculated campaign ?

Let me try to translate for you what happened inside the tiny brains of those clowns :

-“Boss, boss… ! the King is sick. We should…”
-“You mean try to look more monarchist than him, so we can gain face… and maybe get a medal. Or a house.
-“… Or a new car”.
-“Oh yeah my Budha. I would like a new Benz. Pink. Or gold. But what should we do ?
-“I read in newspapers that there are some websites in Thailand with lese-majeste content. You know…
-“What do you mean by websites ? What is it ?
-“Well you now… technology. Internet”
-“Oh I see. Okay. You take care of it. Be sure to put my name and to call all the journalists. I hope the palace will notice”.

Another perfectly normal day in Thailand.

And meanwhile, our dashing Prime Minister, Abhisit the Jetfighter and Submarine Lover, is visiting… the New York Stock Exchange.

Yes indeed, everything is normal.

I don’t think this is as trivial as it may seem, granted Thais can be pretty trivial and vindictive, bt there is a grander plan afoot here.

The increasing number crack-downs are each a part of a concerted effort to regain tight control for when the HMK passes. At that point, the true love of the Thai people for their CP will become evident and the powers-that-be want to make sure that they have all the tools of oppression in place for when that spills over.

Bangkok Pundit recently opined obliquely that women were becoming more prominent in Thai power-mongering. A contributor took that to mean the occasional sitting of the Princess Sirindhorn as Chair on the Privy Council, but Bedwyr believes he was referring to a different and more senior woman. Who wishes the succession to go as planned.

So Prem and his lapdogs in the Army have had their orders. Abhisit has had his, hence the desperate need to get the Police (widely seen as pro-Thaksin) on-side. Hence the LM crack-dowens, hence the execution of 2 odious but unlucky drug traffickers. Hence the sudden nationalistic fervour about the Khmer temple (*yawn* – again). All a part of a single message to the Thai people.

And poor old Sondhi L, he really has been cast adrift like an old rag hasn’t he? Shot at by Thai army and police ’special’ forces (widely believed to have been organised by the Palace), convicted for libel for the second time and about to have his appeal rejected so he gets thrown in jail. I bet he is really happy about trying to protect the institution.

And then we have the rising star and future PM Newin. Already blessed and given his orders for when Abhisit, in his turn, is cast-off like the snake’s skin. A catamite of the Army, and through them… well, we all know.

All part of a concerted effort to ensure no trouble from the bothersome Thai people come the day of succession. Thailand is becoming another Burma as we watch, while it’s pretty-boy premier struts the world stage with a mouth full of humbug, trying to persuade the stupid foreigner that black is white and all is well witht the joke called Thai democracy.

Very interesting analysis and scenario Bedwyr, and a bold one, although I don’t agree with you about Sonthi’s shooting.

Newin as PM ? Now, I’m really scared…

But It’s undeniable : Thailand is on a slippery path… The future is not written, but some versions of it are scary.

Interesting commentary Bedwyr. I hope you are way off the mark, but I fear you may be closer than people may give you credit for.

Is it true that Newin, while a Thai citizen, is ethnically Khmer and actually speaks Khmer with his many ethnically Khmer constituents? How ironic that the present anti-Khmer hysteria and wave of nostalgia for Thai Nationalism and the Golden Illusion of Happier Earlier Times might lead to Thailand having its first Khmer Prime Minister. And one named after a Burmese Dictator! Whatever one’s opinion of Newin’s character and morals and level of corruption might be, Newin does seem to be a frighteningly clever politician and player in the very complex and dangerous world of Thai political games and so far, he always seems to manage to land on his very nimble feet………all four of them!

pm nevin chidchob!! has a nice ring to it. he has one more case to go regarding the lotteries and i think he will go free too. once that happens all the puea thai mps will come under hsi umbrella. and after his two years of staying out of politics passes he is back.

all political parties rather be with him than with abisit.hell even at the moment is seems like nevin is in control!!

after he came out of the court he said now he will devote his life to protecting the monarch institution.read between the lines.

The irony, the army should clean their house first before doing something outside their jurisdiction. I suggested they start clearing of the illegal casino (running by the army of cause) and the mafia syndicate that linked to the people in the army.
